Tuna Recall Expanded

Tuna Recall Expanded

(WENY)-- Two of the three biggest players in the U.S. canned-tuna industry, Bumble Bee and Chicken of the Sea, have both expanded voluntary recalls.

According to Food and Drug Administration, the tuna is being recalled because of packaging concerns.  It includes 1 million, 5-ounce cans that were improperly sealed at a California plant, meaning the fish could spoil.

The Bumble Bee recall includes chunk light and chunk white tuna in water and oil sold from Jan. 17th until Wednesday, with best-by dates from Jan. 14, 2016, to Jan. 18, 2016.

The Chicken of the Sea recall includes chunk light tuna in oil sold Jan. 23 to Wednesday, with a best-by date of Jan. 15, 2017. This recall includes chunk light tuna in water sold Feb. 4 to Feb. 27, with a best-by date of Jan 18, 2017.

No illnesses have been reported and the companies say the manufacturing problem is now fixed.
