CORNING -- A Savona girl is collecting money for the SPCA, instead of getting birthday presents.
Emily DeArmett celebrated her 10th birthday with friends and family at the Nasser Civic Center skating rink Friday night.
Emily is a horse lover, and was sad to hear about 82 neglected horses that were seized from a Troupsburg farm in September 2008.
She asked everyone who came to the party to donate money, which will help pay for taking care of horses who still haven't found a home. She already collected $135 in school!
“If everyone was to do one thing, our world would be so much better, and the animals would be so much better. So it would be awesome if people could do one thing,” said Emily.
“This is just wonderful that a young girl like that would really put the effort forth and sacrifice her birthday presents for some rescued horses is a amazing for someone her age. And we're so appreciative,” said Finger Lakes SPCA volunteer Mary Moyer.
27 horses still need a permanent home.
