150th Street Signs in Elmira

August 15, 2014

ELMIRA (WENY) -- The first of the 150th Anniversary street signs are now up in Elmira.
The signs were revealed on Thursday morning on the corner of Main and Church streets. The signs celebrate the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Elmira.
Perry and Carroll were the first sponsor signs to be shown, the business has been around just as long as the city, but for about 155 years.
Bo Manuel, President of Perry and Carrol said, "I think its a great opportunity for businesses and individuals to participate in the celebration. It's an easy way to do it and it's lasting."
Elmira City Second District Councilman Brent Stermer added, "we've been here 150 years and I think we'll be here another 150 years I hope, let's put up some signs, look at our history and look at our past and build on it."
They still have 17 signs left to sponsor. If you're interested in having your name on one of the signs, call City Hall.
