Arctic League Broadcast Record
During its annual telethon, the Elmira based organization raised more than 51 thousand dollars.
ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- It was a record setting day for the Arctic League. During its annual telethon, the Elmira-based organization raised more than $51,000.
This year's broadcast managed to break the fundraising record set two years ago. The final total of $51,741 beat the old record by about three thousand dollars. The money will go toward the organization's overall $120,000 goal. That money goes directly to buying toys and other Christmas presents next year for needy children and families in Chemung County.
The highlight of Sunday's broadcast was a $15,000 personal donation by Bob Hill of Elmira, a longtime contributor who made the donation in honor of Elmira sports legend Ernie Davis, a classmate.
The Arctic League expects to help about four thousand needy children in the Elmira area and throughout Chemung County this year.
