Armed Robber May Have Struck Again
ELMIRA (WENY) --- Investigators confirm the identity of yesterday's armed robber, and it looks like he struck again. His name is Corey Ryan. He's 29-years-old and from Elmira. Police say it's likely he's the same man who threatened a clerk with what appeared to be a gun at a Webster convenience store.
In surveillance video from the armed robbery in Webster, the suspect looks strikingly similar to the one yesterday in Southport. He's wearing the same blue jacket with white stripes on the side, a white undershirt, and is heavyset with a scruffy beard.
Police say it's very likely he traveled about 100 miles to rob another convenient store in Webster, outside of Rochester.
"They had surveillance photos of the suspect there as well," says Undersheriff William Schrom. "Comparing them to the photos that we have from the robbery yesterday, it does appear that it's the same individual. As a matter of fact, the clothing is identical."
Webster Police say the latest robbery happened around 9:00 last night at the Noco Gas Station. They say a man came into the store and threatened the clerk with a Weapon but did not display one. That's exactly what happened yesterday in Southport.
The owner of Uncle Jack's Convenience Store says there's no question that it's the same man and she hopes he get's caught soon.
Police are pooling resources -- doing everything they can -- to make sure he does get caught soon.
"He probably has some connections in Rochester there in that area, so between our resources here and their resources at the Rochester Police Department, I feel confident it won't be long before we have him in custody," says Undersheriff Schrom.
Back in Southport, neighbors and employees were on edge yesterday, some workers didn't even want to come to work. They were hoping cameras got a good look at the suspect.
"People probably thought the cameras were there for looks, but its real and I don't think anyone will be messing with us much any more," says employee Kendra White.
Ryan is believed to be in a gray 2001 Mercury Villager with a New York license of EL398.
