Bill Aimed at Sexual Assault on Campuses
SOUTHERN TIER (WENY) -- An American woman who attends college is more likely to be a victim of sexual assault than a woman who doesn't attend college. That's according to New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand who is introducing new legislation to change these statistics.
Gillibrand's Campus Accountability and Safety Act takes aim at sexual assaults on college and university campuses.
The legislation looks to strengthen accountability and transparency for institutions, including establishing stiff penalties for non-compliance with the legislations new standards for training, data and best practices.
The legislation has bipartisan support in the Senate.
