A new law is in effect with boater safety in mind.
New York (WENY) - A new law is in effect with boater safety in mind. The New York State Parks and Recreation Commissioner is encouraging boaters to stay safe by making a new law so boaters learn the laws of the waterways earlier.
The new law took effect on May 1st. Now anyone born on or after May 1st, 1996 are now required to get a Safe Boating Certificate to captain a personal watercraft. Before only youth operators had to hold a Safe Boating Certificate. Boating safety courses will be offered in the area through the State Parks Marine Service Unit, U.S. Coast Guard , or U.S. Power Squadrons.
