Bomb Scare Suspect Pleads Guilty
ITHACA (WENY) -- The man behind a bomb scare that forced an evacuation of the Ithaca Commons in October pleaded guilty.
Thirty seven year old Matthew Whitney leaded guilty in Tompkins County court to Placing a False Bomb or Hazardous Substance. Authorities evacuated the Commons after a shoe box with the word "bomb" written on it was found outside Bank of America on October 11th.
Inside the box was actually two fliers and a book; Whitney told investigators he was trying to promote a message about "free energy." He now faces up to four years in prison when he's sentenced in March.
