Breakfast Promotes After School Programs
ELNoST 3rd Annual Legislative Breakfast.
February 28, 2014
HORSEHEADS (WENY) -- The need for after school programs was the subject at the breakfast table at GST BOCES this morning. The Expanded Learning Network of the Southern Tier hosted their 3rd annual legislative breakfast.
The group is a chapter of the New York State After School Network, who are advocates for quality out of school programs for kids. Local community groups, like the Elmira YWCA and Cornell Youth Center, were there as well as local legislators. They focused on shared services, so that despite the funding cuts, they can still provide quality services to the kids.
Shelley Lester, ELNoST Advisory Board Member, said "it becomes increasingly more important as both parents work and many of them work more than one job. And our schools also need help expanding on the curriculum as they are also in tight budget constraints."
They'll be having an agency fair on April 4th at the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center, so people have another chance to learn about after school and summer programs.
