Burned Auto Shop Re-Opens in New Spot

ELMIRA (WENY) --  An Elmira body shop that caught fire in February is now re-opening in a new, temporary location.  S & S Alignment will have its first day of business on Friday, March 7 at 717 Davis Street.

A fire broke out on February 17 at their original College Avenue store, which had been there more than 30 years.  Investigators determined a kerosene heater started the blaze.

Store owners say they're grateful to get back to work, but hope to move back to their permanent location soon.

Shop managers say the College Avenue building is structurally re-buildable, but it would need a new roof, new equipment and lots of repairs.  No dollar amount has been determined on the total costs of the damage.  An insurance representative will be in town next week to an assessment.
