CORNING (WENY) -- A groundbreaking ceremony in Corning is making way for a reimagined learning environment.
Friday morning Corning Community College hosted a groundbreaking event for their new library. The $23.3 million dollar project will transform the Arthur A. Houghton, Jr. Library into a 21st century, student centered learning environment.
CCC's began their series of renovation projects in 2013 with opening of Perry Hall, the college's first residence hall. The library is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
"Now in the 21st century, we have a different set of expectations for students that involve a great deal of a use of technology and collaboration and the renovations of this library are built around those student needs and how they learn today and the skills they'll need in the 21st century," said Dr. Katherine Douglas, President of Corning Community College.
The Library is expected to open in January 2015.
