Plans are moving forward to build new dorms at Corning community college. Major renovations to the Spencer Hill campus will add up to over a million dollars.

Corning (WENY) - Plans are moving forward to build new dorms at Corning community college. Major renovations to the Spencer Hill campus will add up to over a million dollars. The project would make major renovations to the Arthur A. Houghton, Jr. Library, Student Commons building, gymnasium, and a turf field, among other things. There are 19 other community colleges in New York that also have dorm rooms and President of the College Dr. Kate Douglas says CCC is learning a lot from those colleges.
      “So what we did in doing our homework was to go talk to the ones that have been doing it for the longest and then get some feedback on what lessons did they learn that we can learn from them and not repeat them for example we're moving forward with swipe cards instead of individual keys,” says Douglas.
     President Douglas says alumni donations have started to come in to help fund the project. The total cost is $20.7 million; SUNY will pay for half, and the rest of the money will come from loans and private donations.
