PA AG Warns of Charity Scams in Wake of Bombing
HARRISBURG (WENY) -- Pennsylvania's Attorney General is urging people to be cautious about giving to questionable charities in the wake of the Boston tragedy.
Attorney General Kathleen Kane says if you want to give money, you should be careful that your donation is going to those who need it most.
Here are some tips to keep in mind as you select a charity:
- Find a trusted charity that's providing valuable assistance.
- Check to see if the charity is registered with a state government, as most states require this. Non-registered charities are a red flag.
- Find out how the donations will be used; try to avoid vague appeals.
- Never click links to charities on unfamiliar websites, or in texts or emails; you may put yourself at risk for a virus or identity theft.
