ITHACA (WENY) -- You never know when disaster is going to strike, but an event in Ithaca this weekend can help you be prepared if it ever does.
Cornell University is hosting the Southern Tier Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program Saturday March 29 at 11:00 AM in Statler Hall Auditorium. Governor Cuomo has been hosting a series of these across the state, aiming to provide 100,000 New Yorkers with the tools and resources to prepare for
emergencies and disasters.
The Governor along with Senator Tom O'Mara, Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton and Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick are inviting everyone to participate.
Mayor Svante Myrick added, "the recent flooding in the Fall Creek area of the City really highlighted the need for all citizens to be properly prepared and know how to respond when emergencies strike."
The program is open to the public. Each family that attends will receive a NYS Disaster Preparedness Kit that contains key items to assist individuals in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.
All participants must register in advance of the training and show identification at the check-in desk.
