Elmira Heights, Horseheads Consolidation Study
March 11, 2013
Elmira Heights (WENY) -- The Elmira Heights school voted Monday night to move forward with a consolidation study with Horseheads.
The two districts are applying for a $50,000 grant to conduct a feasibility study on possible merger. Both districts are facing financial struggles, and are considering the possibility of consolidating. Tonight, Elmira Heights school board members approved submitting the application for the study's grant.
"I want to reinforce for this community that this is Plan B, our plan A is to remain a vibrate community school but we also have to be responsible and lay out a plan if were unable to do that because of forces that are not under our control," said Mary Beth Fiore, Superintendent of Elmira Heights.
If the districts get the grant money, the study could take up to a year and a half.
