Elmira (WENY) - Elmira is now home to two award-winning photographers. Elmira-native, A.D. Wheeler has been shooting photos as unique pieces of art. Any photo that is sold is one of a kind and each one comes with a special story. Last year his friend Walter Arnold's photo was chosen as the theme for the setting of a movie directed by Ron Howard. This year A.D. Has his own influence on one of 9 different films. There were 90 different photos chosen, one for each category. Nine guest directors will chose their own nine and inject them into a film. A.D.'s picture was taken using long exposure and connecting power to steel wool, making it spark.
“It took 30 seconds to shoot. The camera shutter is open for 30 seconds and i'm vigorously spinning the steel wool as fast as I can and as smoothly as I can while the camera continues to record all those sparks flying all over,” says Wheeler.
A.D. Would not say where in Elmira he took the picture in order to protect the location from vandals and scavengers.
