Corning Inc. Hits Records Sales for 4Q

CORNING (WENY)--- A big push forward for Corning incorporated and it's one for the record books.

Fourth quarter sales were $2.15 billion, a 14% increase from this time in 2011.

Annual sales are at $8.01 billion, a 2% increase form last year- record breaking numbers.

The downside of the report comes from net income, down 3% this quarter and 30% for the year. Company Spokesman, Dan Collins says it's because of higher sales costs, tax hikes and price declines.

Despite progress in 2012, the state of the global economy is a clear challenge towards their $10 billion goal.

Collins says, "We had a very very strong first half of the year and then we saw businesses weakening in the second half. On the other hand, we saw extraordinary growth for our gorilla glass business throughout the year and particularly in 4th quarter our cover glass is on more than 1 billion products, so that continues to grow. So, some are growing and some are struggling."

As we've reported, the company laid off about 500 people in 2012, most recently in North Carolina.
