Corning Rotary Club Welcomes Special Guests
A special visitor was in Corning today. Scripps National Spelling Bee pronouncer Dr. Jacques Bailly was the guest speaker for the Corning Rotary Club's luncheon.
He won the spelling bee back in 1980 with the word Elucubrate, which means, to study at night. Joining him was Corning's own Sriram Hathwar, the third place finalist in this year's bee.
When asked what he does to get ready, Sriram says, "I study about one-to-two hours a day during the time when it's not bee season. So I do study everyday, but when I go on vacation, it's sometimes hard to account for that."
If Sriram competes next year, it will be his last Scripps Spelling Bee. He says if he does compete, he plans to win.
