Tractor Trailer crash in Ithaca Commons

Tractor Trailor Crash in Ithaca
 
ITHACA (WENY) -- It was just a normal busy day in the city of Ithaca until a little after 4 pm when a tractor trailer carry a car hauler was driving down East State street and was unable make the turn onto Aurona street. Officer Jamie Williamson of the Ithaca Police Department said “The truck then smashed into a building that houses. Its four stories. It houses a restaurant called Simeon’s on the first floor and apartments above that.”
   
     Simeon’s was not open when the accident happened and the staff rushed to get outside. First responders arrived quickly to the scene and pronounced one person dead. Four others were rushed to a near by hospital but don't have life threatening injuries. Police say the driver has been cooperating but have yet to release details on what he has said. Initial reports say the tractor trailers brakes failed to work. 
   
      “Its obviously a very tragic day in the city of Ithaca. Its a sad day. There's not a lot of solace to be found anywhere when you lose a life like this. But there is inspiration to be found in our first responders,” says the mayor of Ithaca Svante Myrick.
   
     “I’ve lived here a long time and I’ve never seen something happen like this. You never expect a tractor trailer to hit the restaurant your in its nuts,” says eye witness Caleb Harned.
   
       Ithaca police are asking anyone who saw  the accident or has any information to contact them immediately. We will continue to bring you updates on the crash as soon we get them in.
