SOUTHERN TIER (WENY) -- People in New York who have a medical condition made worse by extreme heat might be able to get free air conditioners this summer.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Monday the state is setting aside $3 million for the cooling assistance program. The funding will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. People can begin to apply Thursday.
To be eligible, households must meet the 2013-2014 HEAP income eligibility guidelines.
