New York (WENY) - Governor Cuomo also signed another law allowing for tighter local regulations on pet dealers. According to the governor's office, local ordinances must now be at least as strict as state law and cant ban sales of dogs and cats raised safely. The new legislation will give local governments the ability to strengthen laws to crack down on illegal pet dealers. Enforcement will be up to the town, village, city or county that enacts the more restrictive measures.
