Deer Population High After Hunting Season

April 25, 2014

SOUTHERN TIER (WENY) -- With deer hunting season over, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation says the numbers are about equal to last year, but there are still too many female deer.
More than 243 thousand deer were taken in during the 2013 to 2014 hunting seasons. But there's still concern from DEC deer managers not enough females are being taken to reduce populations to desired levels, particularly in the southeastern region of New York.
More information on the 2013 to 2014 deer harvest is available on the DEC website.
