Drug Tip Line Launched in Steuben Co.

Drug Tip Line Launches in Steuben Co.

BATH (WENY) -- Seven deaths have been reported in Steuben County over the past two years due to drug usage. Now, the Sheriff's office is addressing the issue  with a drug tip line.
Sometimes, people are scared to talk when they know something illegal like drug usage is going on. This new drug tip line created by the Steuben County sheriff's office will give people the opportunity to anonymously call in tips or give their name throughout the county.
The new line will make it easier for state, county and local agencies to work together to combat a common issue. An investigator will distribute information given to various agencies.
The undersheriff says drug usage is commonly found linked to other criminal activity and tips are often helpful.
"As we're moving forward and we're looking at crime in Steuben County and we look at the ancillary crimes associated with the drug trade, always the common denominator is the illegal drug use," said Undersheriff Jim Allard.
The line will be monitored and checked everyday. It is active at (607) 844-DRUG-TIP
The Sheriff's office is also creating a website. we'll give you more on that when it launches.
