UPDATE: Lockdown Lifted at Elmira Correctional Facility
UPDATE (7pm, 10/21/13) - The following is a statement from the New York State Department of Corrections:
"The frisk at Elmira is complete and the lockdown has been lifted. All regular programs are tentatively scheduled to resume on Tuesday.
Our continuing investigation into last week’s incidents at Elmira have resulted in 8 inmates being transferred to maximum security correctional facilities so far, with more transfers likely as the investigation continues. Where appropriate departmental misbehavior charges will be filed. Our transfer capabilities contribute to our ability to transfer problem inmates away from each other."
ELMIRA (WENY)--- As of Monday morning, the Elmira Correctional Facility is still on lockdown.
Corrections Officers at the facility say three fights broke out last week, sending two officers to Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Investigators believe the violent attacks are linked to rival gangs. Two inmates were found with weapons and a total of five weapons were found during the frisk.
This is the third time this year that Elmira facility has been under lockdown. All programs at the facility are cancelled until the lockdown is lifted.

ELMIRA--[WENY]--We learned tonight that the Elmira Correctional Facility is on lockdown after at least two fights broke out earlier this week, one sent an officer to the hospital with minor injuries.
That officer is ok, but two cell blocks and common areas will be searched, and inmates frisked.
The process is expected to last three to four days.
