Elmira Buildings to be Demolished
ELMIRA - [WENY] On Friday afternoon, the Elmira City Managers office announced that the Rosenbaum's and Marvin's buildings will be demolished, and starting Monday, Railroad Avenue will be closed between Gray and West Water Street during demolition, and will remain closed until demolition is complete.
According to our media partner the Star Gazette, Elmira City manager Kimberlee Balok-Middaugh said, the Elmira City Fire Marshal declared an emergency demolition, and the city will take any legal actions to recoup demolition costs from site owner, Harmony LLC.
Over the past couple of years, the buildings have had plans for a multimillion dollar redevelopment project, but the site owner, Harmony LLC backed out. The buildings have stood vacant for more than 20 years.
From the street, looking up at one of the structures, a portion of the roof has collapsed, and mold is accumulating on the woodwork.
The old Harold's building will not be demolished because it is not have the same structural concerns as Rosenbaum's and Marvin's next door.
