TWIN TIERS (WENY)- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning pet owners about the risk of contracting Salmonella from raw food. Feeding raw foods to pets increases the risk that both the pet and the people around the pet will encounter bacteria. This bacteria could cause foodborne illlness. The FDA recommends cooking raw meat and poultry to kill these bacteria. In addition to sickening dogs and cats, raw food can sicken humans if handled improperly. When handling raw foods, you should wash your hands, and anything else that comes into contact with the product, with hot, soapy water for at least 20 seconds.
