Corning Asks for Money to Fight Meth

January 7, 2013
Corning (WENY) - Corning City council understands there is a problem with meth in their city, and the need to clean it up. Tonight the council passed a resolution requesting money to help fund efforts to clean up the city of corning . Mayor Richard Negri says any money would be helpful because the number of meth lab busts continues to grow. He also says the state has cut back funds that would help with the disposal of chemicals and equipment found during a meth bust. The resolution passed unanimously was calling for the federal government to help replace some of the money no longer provided by New York state. The resolution focuses not only on corning but on all the citys in new york, because this it's a state wide issue.

“As always you don't stop doing what you need to do and our police department is keeping on top of the situation in our area and in the surrounding communities so we can bust up some of those labs that we find,” says Negri.

Corning City Fore chief agrees there needs to be more money for clean up.

“We need to have the money continued to find that clean up to keep the people safe, because they are dangerous chemicals and they are dangerous to people and the neighbors and we need to get that funding continued as it is now,” says Chief John Tighe.

The money would be used for the handling and disposal of the chemicals found at the scene of a meth lab.
