Northern Tier Gets $13M In Gas Drilling Fees
HARRISBURG, PA (WENY)---The Northern Tier counties are nearly $14 million richer, thanks to the natural gas industry and the first year of Pennsylvania's drilling impact fee.
Pennsylvania state leaders announced the distribution of $200 million in fees paid for by 58 natural gas companies drilling in the marcellus shale.
Bradford County received the most at $8.4 million and second highest was Tioga County at $4.8 million. The money was directed to counties based on their respective amount of drillers.
State leaders say each county now has the flexibility to use the money in different ways, including local tax reductions and preservation of a county's water supply.
