Gas Prices Surging
SOUTHERN TIER (WENY) -- Gas prices are getting a head start on their normal spring price hikes.
You've probably noticed gas prices surging across the Southern Tier over the past few weeks. According to AAA, prices have gone up for 14 days straight. The national average rose 13-cents over the past two weeks, to $3.42 a gallon. In New York, the average is $3.82; in Pennsylvania, it's $3.62 a gallon.
We've noticed locally, prices vary by as much as 20 cents a gallon from one gas station to the next.
"It doesn't matter where you are. Whether you're in Big Flats, Horseheads, over on the southside, it's different prices all over. It's hard to know where to go to get the best buy," said Carole Clemens, who was gassing up at Hess in Elmira Heights Friday afternoon.
So far in 2013, gas is cheaper than it was last year, but it's early yet.
