More Charges Against Blood Stain Expert
CORNING, NY (WENY) -- A Corning man accused of taking inappropriate photos of an 11 year old girl earlier this week now faces more charges.
New York State Police charged 84-year-old Herbert MacDonell with Forcible Touching, Exposure of a Person, Aggravated Harassment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Police say the 16 year old female victim, who is not from this area, attended a forensic seminar at McDonell's home last summer. MacDonell allegedly exposed his penis, had sexual contact with the victim, and threatened to disclose personal health information about her he claimed to have through forensic analysis of an item she'd thrown away in a trash can.
According to police, the victim was afraid to come forward sooner because of MacDonell's involvement with the legal community. MacDonell is a forensic scientist who is regarded nationally as a blood stain expert.
Earlier this week, MacDonell was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, for allegedly taking inappropriate photos of an 11 year old girl at his home. Police began investigating after a call was placed to the state's Child Abuse hotline about MacDonell's behavior. Police now have filed an additional charge of 2nd degree Sexual Abuse in regards to that incident.
