Albany (WENY) - New York State lawmakers are hosting a roundtable discussion to examine the rise in heroin and opioid abuse across the state.
       
Members of the state Assembly are set to talk today at the legislative office building in Albany. Representatives from mental health organizations, public health agencies and law enforcement are scheduled to attend, along with drug policy experts.
      
The Senate is holding a series of similar forums around the state to study the epidemic of opiate abuse and recommend ways to combat it. The goal is top find ways to stop opioid use in the state. A second Assembly roundtable is scheduled for June 5th in New York City.
