Elmira (WENY) - Historic Elmira held their fifth annual preservation awards this evening. Driving around Elmira is like taking a tour of the past and restoring old Victorian architecture has become a project for the whole community.

This year Historic Elmira Inc., gave a unique award for outstanding work done by James Capriotti.

      The "Angel in the Architecture" award is not given every year but only when restoration work has gone above and beyond the usual home makeover.

"We're honored by it and we're very much appreciative of Historical Elmira and especially Congressmen Reed for giving me this award,” said Capriotti.

                Mr. Capriotti has renovated over 20 properties and has plans to begin more projects very soon. 

"These people deserve and should be recognized by the community for the good work they do, and we are having a wonderful time celebrating our good fortune and their hard work,” said Kaye Newbury, President of Historic Elmira.
