Hochreiter Leaving ECSD

ELMIRA -- [WENY] Joe Hochreiter agreed to a three year deal with the Hendrick Hudson school board in Montrose.
The Elmira City School board president-- Sarah Lattin-- says she can understand why Hochreiter is moving on, and wishes him the best at his new job.
Hochreiter's been running Elmira Schools for three years and Lattin says he's young and is just at the start of his career.
She says the board still needs to meet and talk about who-- if anyone-- will fill in as interim superintendent and when they'll start the hiring process.
The Hendrick Hudson board approved Hochreiter's hiring of at tonight's board meeting, with a salary of $235,000.
In a statement on Hudson's website, board of education president Mary Pat Briggi says Hochreiter stood out as the best leader and she was impressed by his optimism and ability to inspire.
Meantime, Elmira City Schools will be looking for someone who has strong experience, is innovative and capable of taking on the challenges Elmira faces.
"We know it's early in his career and Elmira was a stepping stone for Joe and we definitely wish him well," said Lattin. "the board has to have those first discussions on how we're going to move forward to look for a new superintendent um but we're definitely going to take our time and do this right."
Lattin says looking for a new superintendent will be a slow and thoughtful process because Elmira is a unique district and needs someone who is just right for the position.
