Hope Remains for Downtown Development

ELMIRA (WENY) -- The clock is ticking for funding for a downtown Elmira project.
Back in March, a Buffalo developer bought the old Marvin, Harold and Rosenbaum's buildings on Water Street.
He had plans to build 27 luxury apartments, a new pre school and daycare. However, the developer backed out of that $7 million plan in June. $2 million from a Restore New York grant were put towards the plans - but that funding could now be in jeopardy.
"We still have the money to invest, the Restore New York money until about April, so we are working diligently to find someone to take over that project," said Sue Skidmore, Elmira Mayor.
Mayor Skidmore is hopeful a developer will come in and preserve and restore the historic buildings.
