As Hurricane Sandy pummeled the east coast, the Twin Tiers saw very little damage, and the locals are thankful to have caught a break.

Elmira resident Suan Conkright said, "I was scared because of what happened with the tornado you know. I thought it was going to be a lot worse and I'm glad it wasn't. I'm glad nobody got hurt."

Chemung County leaders held an early morning press conference yesterday to map out a plan of action, in case forecasters' worst case scenarios played out.

Chemung County Executive, Tom Santulli said, "We were preparing for the worst. Matter of fact, Chemung County was told we were going to be the center of where the storm would hit."

Santulli also said that no state of emergency needed to be issued as it was a very quiet night and none of the highway departments were needed on the roads.

Aside from the wind knocking down a few signs, there were some power outages in the area, but nothing close to the million-plus people who lost power downstate.
