ITHACA, NY (WENY) -- Seven-year-old Tyler Seddon of Rhode Island, who was diagnosed with cancer, had only one birthday wish this year, to get a few birthday cards from police officers and firefighters.
Now he's getting more than just a few, he's getting a few thousand, including some from the Ithaca Police Department and Ithaca Fire Department.
Sergeant Bryan Banks and Officer Jamie Williamson heard about the wish through Facebook and immediately got involved. They took this photo outside the department just a few days ago. Two officers, Officer Brandon Goldsberry and Officer Anthony Augustine drove to Rhode Island last night to join the hundreds of other officers and firefighters from all over the country who will be there to surprise Tyler for his birthday.
WENY spoke with Officer Williamson Thursday morning and he said, "we got together and realized that this was something that would be a wonderful opportunity for the department to get involved in, to help this kid celebrate his birthday and make it one that he will never forget.
He added, "There was officers from Kentucky as far west as Arizona and California that were going to be there to help this kid have a birthday, like I said, that he will never forget. It's going to be amazing."
Tyler is in his second fight against acute lymphoblastic leukemia. His family is now looking for matching donors so he can receive a bone marrow transplant.
