Liberty Homicide: Man Dead, Wife Hospitalized
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP -- (WENY) Neighbors in a small Northern Tier town are on edge after a man was shot and killed in his home. Police say it happened sometime between Friday and Sunday. Neighbors say there have been a string of break-ins over the past few weeks. Most of them are so shaken up, they didn't want to be on camera.
According to Tioga County Coroner, James Wilson, 82-year-old Oliver Litzelman is dead from gunshot wounds to the head and neck. His wife, 81-year-old Edwina Litzelman remains in serious condition at Geisinger Hospital.
Police are looking for a middle aged woman they call a person of interest. Oliver and Edwina Litzelman were found by a family member yesterday morning.
"There's been a lot of camps around here being broken into lately," says a nearby neighbor.
Neighbors say Oliver Litzelman and his wife Edwina have lived at their home on Route 414 for as long as they can remember
"They're just real calm people, just paid their attention to their own home being and stuff not bothering anyone else," says the nearby neighbor. "I think it was just someone coming through just targeting them and older people I think."
Police are continuing to follow leads. They executed a warrant today to search the home. They're looking for a woman they call a person of interest.
Another says they had no known enemies, "When we were kids we used to go swimming in the pond up there and fishing. All I know is they were good people, well known."
Police are still looking for a woman possibly driving a green sedan, no word on how she's tied to the situation. Anyone with information is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police at (570) 662-2151.
