CAMPBELL (WENY)-- Authorities in Steuben County are still trying to find out how a missing Hammondsport woman ended up dead.

An early morning search came to a grim end Friday when the body of Melissa Sherry was found.

Search and rescue crews met just after dawn Friday morning to go over the plan to look for Mellissa Sherry of Hammondsport.

A search dog came across her body in a field less than a half a mile from where she was last seen--that was near Manning Ridge Road in Campbell.

She was first reported missing last Saturday. Investigators are trying to determine if foul play was involved.

The body was taken to the monroe county medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
