New Senior Apartments Open in Waverly
WAVERLY, NY (WENY) -- A historic school in Waverly is now a place where senior citizens can find affordable housing.
Officials cut the ribbon this morning on the Muldoon Gardens Senior Apartments. The apartments are in the renovated Mary Muldoon Junior and Senior High School.
Village leaders say Muldoon was an important part of village history, and the school is listed on a National Parks Service registry as a place "Where Women Made History."
It took about a year and a half to turn the school building into comfortable apartments for seniors.
"This is a big step forward for affordable housing. This building sat in the dark; like I said today the lights are back on for our senior citizens. It's in the middle of town within walking distance to the business section. It's a positive thing. For the last year years we put together this great transition and it's gonna help everyone in the village," said Waverly Mayor, Daniel Leary.
The school holds 31 apartments; 29 one bedroom and two two-bedroom. Twenty four are already rented. For more information about occupancy and rates, call 607-565-2141.
