Watkins Glen Out of Snow Days

No More Snow Days in Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN (WENY) -- The nasty March snow storm caused many schools to close and have delays. In the Watkins Glen Central School District, they've used all of their snow days.
After this Winter, Superintendent Tom Phillips, says they could very well be using snow days into April.
The district built four snow days into their calendar. They used their last snow day in February. On Wednesday, they used one more. Today, they simply had a two hour delay.
Now, Superintendent Phillips says they're going to have to use a parent teacher conference day on April 25th to make up the difference. He says adding days at the end of the school year in June, could be likely as well. The last resort is dipping in to Spring Break.
"Parents have put a lot of money, planning and time, staff also has some plans, so I mean to disrupt all of that for make up days is really a last resort," said Supt. Phillips.
Schools in New York are required to have 180 days of school per year. In the past, the Commissioner has reduced those days based on severe weather. Superintendent Phillips says that could happen again, considering the amount of snow our neighbors further North have gotten.
