NY Landowners File Lawsuit
NEW YORK STATE (WENY) -- A group of landowners is suing Governor Cuomo, the Department of Conservation and Department of Health for dragging out the decision on fracking.
The Joint Landowners Coalition of New York says its members have been unable to develop their minerals because of the DEC's slow decision on hydraulic fracturing. The suit asks for the DEC to finish its environmental impact statement among other requests, and lists Governor Cuomo as the lead defendant.
The coalition is made up of about 70,000 members.
JLCNY President Dan Fitzsimmons said: “It is apparent to the world that Governor Cuomo is dragging out the SGEIS process for his political purposes instead of focusing on his upstate New York constituents, many of whom struggle to survive in the worst economic conditions in our nation. We want to see our communities thrive through the blessing of this American energy revolution.”
