Local National Guard Soldiers Return from Qatar
HORNELL, N.Y. (AP) - More than 120 members of the New York Army National Guard are back in the United States after spending most of the past year deployed in the Persian Gulf.
National Guard officials say the Guardsmen serving in the 222nd Military Police Co. arrived Sunday at Camp Shelby in Mississippi after spending more than nine months in Qatar.
The soldiers are based at National Guard facilities in Rochester and in Hornell in Steuben County. They conducted security missions at U.S. military facilities in Qatar.
The unit mobilized for its deployment at the end of February. The soldiers will be processing out from federal military duty at Camp Shelby before returning to New York later this month.
Members of the 222nd MP company have also served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
