ODESSA (WENY) -- Students over at Odessa Montour High School got out to enjoy the weather this morning, for their relay recess.
It's the school districts 5th annual mini-relay for life event, a miniature version of the American Cancer Societies Relay for Life. Students from pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade ran in the event this morning and grades 3 through 6 will run this afternoon.
Students like 8 year old Anabelle Crippen, ran as a cancer survivor. She had stomach cancer when she was just two years old.
Anabelle Crippen, a second grade student at Hanlon Elementary said, "I am here today for to sell stuff and do relay for life to fight cancer. I think cancer is bad because it is not good for your body."
Lynda Kramer a physical education and health teacher at Odessa Montour Central Schools said, "they learn that it is a community event that we all need to join in together to battle cancer."
The event is meant to teaches kids ways to take care of themselves to avoid getting cancer.
