Local Red Cross Volunteers Heading Out

Red Cross Volunteers Deploy to NYC

Elmira (WENY)-- Sandy's debris is quickly being cleaned up across the Twin Tiers compared to what they are dealing with in New York City and along the New Jersey coast.  Six Red Cross volunteers from the Southern Finger Lakes Region Chapter are on their way to White Plains. From there, these volunteers will head out to the shelters that have been set up to provide whatever help they can.

Arlene Heffner says "I'm a retired social worker and I want to give back to the community the way the community has given back to my clients in the past".  Pamela Ameigh says "I find that people ask me for help so I wanted to be ready to give that help".

About 95 percent of people working the Red Cross are volunteers.  If you want to become a Red Cross volunteer, just log onto their website.  W-w-w dot Red Cross dot o-r-g.
