Sports Car Driver Stops by GMTT
June 27, 2014
ELMIRA (WENY) -- WENY, your home for Watkins Glen International Racing, is gearing up for a big weekend at the Glen. Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen is Thursday June 26- Sunday June 29. And on Good Morning Twin Tiers Friday, driver Tom Long stopped by the studio.
Tom will be racing in not one, but two races this weekend. He'll be in the #70 Mazda SKYACTIV Technology prototype on Sunday in the Six Hour TUDOR United SportsCar race. He'll also be in a Freedom Autosport Mazda MX-5 in the Saturday Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race.
Tom first came to Watkins Glen as a child when his dad club raced at the track. Tom now works as a professional driving coaching and instructor.
He graduated from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in 2004 with a degree in business marketing.
Tom Long started his racing career in grassroots sports car racing with the Showroom Stock & Spec Miata classes. Tom then went on to win the 2005 Mazda MX5 Cup National Championship, before moving into the Grand Am Continental Tire Series in 2006.
He has won races in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (most recently last month in Lime Rock). He has also won races in both the GrandAm GT and GX classes.
Catch Tom this weekend at Watkins Glen International. And stay tuned to Good Morning Twin Tiers each Friday morning for your Season Pass to the Glen, with Craig Flint.
And congratulations to our two winners in our Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen Giveaway. Merry Dennis and Melissa Marullo. We hope you have a great time!
