With all the fun surrounding the holidays, it's also a time when drunk driving is at it's peak. Area police are cracking down on impaired drivers with a new campaign. It's called STOP-DWI and it's a special State-wide enforcement to crack down on drining and driving.
It's an effort to encourage everyone to give up their keys if they consume alcohol. The Stop DWI Campaign will be in effect until January 1, 2014.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Institute offers these tips to keep you safe:
1.) Plan Ahead and Have a desginated driver If you plan on drinking.
2.) If you are impaired, find another way home. Call a cab, family
member, or a friend to pick you up.
3.) Be Responsible. If someone you know is drinking, don't let them drive
and if you see an impaired driver on the road, contact the police.
