Union Twp Fatal Truck Accident
Sanitation Truck Rolls and Ejects Driver
March 19, 2013
Tioga County (WENY) -- A tractor trailer truck crash in Tioga County kills the driver and spews thousands of gallons of raw sewage.
It happened around 9:30 this morning on Route 14 in Union Township. Police say that the driver was thrown from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the driver was trying to make a left turn when the rig rolled over and slid across the road and into a pole, spilling 4,000 gallons of residential sewage.
Police identified the driver as 51 year old Gary Jackson of Roaring Branch. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tioga County Chief Deputy Coroner. It happened at the intersection of Route 14 and Mill Hill Road. The Private Sanitation Service truck was carrying 4,000 gallons of raw sewage that spilled along the side of the road.
The Department of Environmental Protection was on the scene and determined that there was no threat to a nearby wet land or tributary to Lycoming Creek. Workers spread Lime on the spilled sewage, and the DEP is checking to see if any spilled deisel fuel would cause a problem, though they didn't expect a significant fuel spill.
