Steuben Co. Man Found Dead in Prison Cell
ROMULUS, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they're launched a homicide investigation after a 24-year-old inmate was found dead in his cell at a maximum-security prison in the Finger Lakes region.
State police say Thomas Blancke was found dead Saturday at the Five Points Correctional Facility in the Seneca County town of Romulus, 40 miles southwest of Syracuse.
State police investigators haven't released any other details. The state Department of Corrections is referring questions about his death to state police.
State prison officials tell local media outlets that Blancke, of Hammondsport, had been at Five Points since July after being convicted of attempted burglary in Steuben County.
