Volunteer Firefighter Recruiting
Written By: Nick Quattrini
Recruit NY aims to take on the challenge of not only trying increase the number of new volunteer firefighters, but EMT's as well.
In New York State, the number of volunteer firefighters has declined from 140,000 in 1990, to less than 90,000 today.
This weekend marks the annual Recruit NY initiative, which is sponsored by the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY). Volunteer fire departments all over the state will be opening their doors in an effort to boost the number of volunteer firefighters and EMT's.
During these open house style events, firefighters will be on hand to answer any questions about joining a volunteer fire department, and what it means to give back to their community.
