NYS Comptroller Audits Big Flats Fire Dept.
Comptroller DiNapoli Calls For Tighter Financial Controls In Big Flats
BIG FLATS, NY (WENY)---New York State Comptroller Thomas Dinapoli wants tighter financial controls in the Big Flats fire district.
This comes after the state comptroller's office audited the volunteer fire department's records from 2011. The recently released report says fire officials need to adopt a code of ethics and new policies for cash receipts and credit cards. The audit also says the department needs to adopt a new budget.
The comptroller's office found minor deficiencies but cautions these minor problems could grow into much bigger problems.
The volunteer fire department, which serves half of the town of big flats, has 90 days to respond to the audit.
